The original Beacon Motel was built in the late 1940’s by the Landry Family. It was sold in the early 60’s to the Watson family who ran it for many years.
May of 1971
The Beacon Resort was purchased by the Clermont Family. The first official day of business for the Clermont family was June 1, 1971. The motel consisted of 8 motel units and 12 cottages, 1 outdoor pool, 1 soda machine and 1 ice machine. It employed 2 maids, 1 laundry person (summer only) and Jon & Fay LaBrecque as on-site managers. It was run as a 20 unit motel for one year.
The 12 cottages were moved to the back of the property. During ski season they are sold
as season rentals to families who come to the White Mountains to ski each weekend. We also added 18 new units plus a manager’s apartment in the front of the property.
An indoor pool was added along with 14 rooms, 9 of which connected to the new indoor pool. Two wooden hot tubs were also added to the pool area. A few years later, these would be replaced by an in-ground jacuzzi. At that time, the Beacon was the only property in the area with an indoor pool. Rooms on the property now totaled 52. The Beacon is growing………
Beacon Tours goes into operation. At that time we had no dining room or entertainment. Our guests were taken to the Chalet Restaurant for meals and the Jack O’Lantern Resort for entertainment at night. Groups were taken on local tours, etc.
Dad’s Restaurant with open hearth cooking was added to the property along with a small lounge and two outdoor tennis courts. Another 20 units were added at the rear (West Wing). Total units now 72. We are still growing……….
The two outdoor tennis courts became indoor courts and Dad’s Lounge was enlarged. Now we had room for our own entertainment for our groups. The indoor tennis courts was used as a showroom for our groups and nightly entertainment was added. Frankie Burke came to the Beacon as our house band.
The adjacent motel (Campfire Motel) was purchased by the Clermont Family from the Fowler family and added to the complex.
Another dining room was added in the front of Dad’s Restaurant. Dad’s Restaurant is known for the “best prime rib in the White Mountains.”
Another addition to the North Side, (former Campfire Motel) now know as Beacon North. Another 8 units were built making a second floor to the existing units.
The construction of 23 deluxe suites began at Beacon North. The 12 cottages that were in the front of the property were picked up by a giant crane and moved to a different location. In the summer of 1988 the suites were ready for occupancy and some were sold as time share units. They consist of a livingroom, full galley kitchen, bedroom and bath with a double Jacuzzi.
Another Indoor pool was built at Beacon North with an underground passage from the glass
enclosed building. The Beacon Motel now had 4 pools, 2 indoor and 2 outdoor. Total nunber of rooms was now was now 132. We are now known as the Beacon Resort.
Beacon Tours now can accommodate 6 buses and ran trips for overnight stays in Canada as well as local tours. We also host many international groups during the ski season.
3 More motel units are added to the Beacon South side. The manager is moved to a house on the back of the property and the front office is enlarged.
The Seacoast Corvette Club has had their convention here every year for the past 35 years on the weekend after Labor Day.
The NH Highland Games has used the Beacon’s facilities since their inception to house their bands and their dinners as the Beacon has the largest indoor facility in the area. We are able to accommodate 850 in the showroom area for conventions, and also host a great number
of weddings and family reunions.
It is time to downsize and update. On July 9, 2009 the North side of the property is sold to the Guertin family from Newburyport, Ma., and is now called “The Inn of Lincoln.”
The Beacon Resort now has 72 rooms and cottages, recently updated, as well as Dad’s
Restaurant & Lounge and Dad’s Showroom featuring great entertainment. We still
accommodate a large number of tour groups, weddings and family reunions. Our dance
weekends and scrapbooking events are extremely popular as well as our themed specials. Sign up for our email list to be the first to know about the upcoming specials.
We have been in business for almost 40 years at this point. Our returning customers’ children are now bring their children and grandchildren. There are a great number of the staff that have been with us for 30 years or more, one from the beginning. We thank them all!
